All copyrights to Jay N. “Ding” Darling’s cartoons are owned by the“Ding” Darling Wildlife Society, an organization that supports J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Florida. These rights are administered by The University of Iowa under terms of an agreement between the two parties. The University ofIowa Libraries’ Special Collections Department reviews requests, determines appropriate fees, and invoices users. Those making requests are required to identify the image(s) they wish to use and to describe explicitly the use(s) they wish to make of them. The Society encourages use of J. N. “Ding” Darling’s editorial cartoons by teachers and students within the classroom without specific written permission. Additionally, the Society may reduce or waive fees to encourage not-for-profit organizations whose goal is public education, particularly in questions involving conservation of natural resources.
